They keep the wheels of the city's economy turning, and revitalize the city from downtown to Times Square to the Meat packing District. Who are these people The Post rounds up the top wheelers and dealers who are shaping New York.
JEFF SUTTON, Wharton Acquisitions Corp
Every few months, developer, owner and retail broker Jeff Sutton comes up with a jaw dropping deal. With tenants ranging from American Girl to American Eagle – coincidentally running through “A” tenants that include Armani, Apple, and Abercrombie & Fitch – keeps retail maestro Sutton on the top of the game.
Last year’s American Eagle deal for the premiere, long-vacant Howard Johnson’s site in Times Square
turned into the most valuable retail lease ever -- worth S300 million over its term.
The lease calls for a 25,600 foot three story glass building plus basement that will be topped with
a 250 foot tall signage aerie over the Great White Way.
Sutton also moved Hugo Boss out of his 717 Fifth Avenue retail condo, making way for a 40,000 foot plus deal with Georgia Armani while moving the Boss man to the Meatpacking District. SL Green Realty Trust has also become an investor in several buildings.
His persistence in securing the American Girl flagship deal at 609 Fifth Avenue led to Sutton winning the Real Estate Board of New York’s award for Most Creative Deal of the Year in June of 2003.
